It is February now and, as predicted, the sciata pain has subsided. I still have a bit of numbness down the back of my right leg and on the bottom of my foot, but walking is much easier. I still use my cane when I go out of the house and don't expect that will ever change. I cannot afford to fall because a broken hip, in my condition, would most likely be a death sentence.
I went to the VA for a check-up about a week ago. My blood work looked a little bit better, but still not good. Triglycerides are lower, but still too high. Kidneys are doing better, but still sub-par. Cholesterol is a little too high -- good cholesterol is way too low, bad is slightly too high. They put me on Pravastatin for that and Gabapentin for the nerve damage from sciatica (the numbness).
I now have a mysterious pain in my left shoulder. I have attributed it to the use of the cane coupled with possible arthritis, but God only knows if that is really the cause. It seems to be in both the joint and the muscle. Jerry's plan is to keep an eye on it before I get medical people involved. If it doesn't get worse, I'll just suck it up. Medical bills are getting out of control.
I am doing some work for Amazon Mechanical Turk which supplements our income a little. We sure need the extra money. The furnace stopped working right in the middle of the coldest winter ever. And we need a new washing machine -- our old one broke down.
On the positive side, I don't think I have mentioned Rosie, my best girl basset. We got her on August 14, 2013. (Her birthday is July 6, 2013). She is an adult now and quite a hand-full. I love her to death.
She is a pure breed -- AKC registered with a pedigree.
Shame of shames --> Rosie's grandfather's name is William Jefferson Clinton. What were they thinking?
Rosie is the proto-type for the character Maggie in The Candidate. I plan more Maggie novels in the future because she has so captured my imagination.
Peace out.
