It is April...we made it through the winter and I am very happy about that. It was a hard winter but now the weather is quite pleasant.
We rescued a dog a couple of weeks ago. Her name is Gidget. She is a year and a half old and has had a litter of puppies which were weaned just before we got her. She is said to be half Husky and half Timber Wolf. From her looks, I think that is accurate. When we got her, she was almost starved to death -- you could count her ribs through her long winter coat, and her spine was even visible. Not just the top, but the sides of her spine could be seen almost to the bottom. She had diarrhea something awful. She will eat anything and everything she can get a hold of--as much as you give her.
It took a few days for her to get house trained, so a few cow-piles on the floor. But she seems to have gotten the idea now and her bowel is firmed up and she is putting on weight quickly.
She is having some socialization issues with Rosie and Ebony. But she, for the most part, is a very human-friendly dog. Very loving. When she first came home with us, she was a bit skittish. It was like she was afraid of my hand. Perhaps had been beaten. But she is mostly over that now.
Anita has been in a lot of pain of late. The doctor said she has bursitis in her hip, and her left knee has become almost useless. On Tuesday next, she is going into the hospital for replacement of that left knee. Then she will have two prosthetic knees. I hope that will make it easier for her to walk and that it will take the pain away. The right knee seems to be much better since she had it replaced, so there is hope that this one will resolve her knee problems for the rest of her life. It hurts me to see her suffering so.
As for me, my body continues to deteriorate. I have been having pain in my left shoulder and am losing range of motion in it. Bursitis? Arthritis? Who knows. It is bothersome, but I don't have health insurance and we can't afford to pay anymore doctor bills than we have to. Thankfully, Anita has Medicare, so her bills are taken care of.
I stopped taking Gabapentin (sp?) as it did not seem to be doing anything. I took the first bottle until it was gone and did not refill it. We don't need to pay for medicine that isn't necessary.
